About Anorexia

You might have come across a word often called anorexia, but what actually it is? Is it a disease or a problem? It is simply a result of wrong thought process wherein a person thinks that he or she will gain weight if they eat properly. In this thought process, they even do not eat what is essential for the existence and is always malnourished.

In fact the fears of being overweight is sometimes just wrong and even those who are relatively slim and trim, suffers from same thinking. But why is it so? Psychiatrists explains anorexia a result of fearing isolation or abuse in the society if they are overweight and this wrong thinking becomes so strong in these people especially young girls and ladies that it sometimes leads to disaster.

To sum up the disastrous side of this problem, I guess it would be enough to say that if a mother is anorexic, chances are quite bright that even the child will be anorexic.

But is there any solution? When every solution has problem why not anorexia, though a bit difficult as it is not a physical problem which can be cured by drugs but the answer lies in psychiatric treatment wherein it is important to make understand the patient the importance of having a balanced diet. Not only that he or she must be told that if they eat properly with adequate exercise there is no way they can gain weight, rather if they continued to avoid nutritious foods ,they would suffer from irregular menstrual cycle , abnormal heart beat and so on. In fact if not treated on time, anorexia can be very fatal and even lead to death.

Therefore if you know somebody who is suffering from anorexia, then take her to the professional at once and see to it that they start eating properly immediately. But in doing so you might face many hurdles because it is very difficult to make them understand that they are actually doing wrong with their body rather than any good. And you might get to see their violent side too in the process but with constant effort you would be able to incorporate healthy eating habit in them.

"Bird Flu": What You Need To Know

Bird flu has recently made everyone of us quite afraid of eating poultry products, but the facts are somehow different from our beliefs. In this article named "Bird Flu": What You Need to Know, you will come across some facts which will help you in knowing this problem better.

At first you need to understand the basic difference between the flu related to birds and the ones which effects human being. They are entirely different from each other. You must have heard that it all started in Asia, that too in the rural corners and why? Because they were all in contact with birds that are already infected with this flu. But the best part is if humans are not in contact with such infected birds, there won't be any flu.

Now if the commercial poultry owners follow strict guidelines and do not let their poultry birds meet any of other birds which have migrated to the place, then we are safe.

Just after the flu spread like anything, poultry owners too have become very vigilant towards the protection of the birds from various diseases and viruses which affects their health as well as keeping the birds away from any strange bird.

Another such step being taken worldwide is that every chicken which reaches your kitchen is tested against the infections and then only released in market for further sale.

And most importantly what you must know that, if you cook your poultry properly and not used to having either raw forms or semi cooked ones, then no doubt, you are totally free from the dangerous effects of this flu.

In short it is not only the responsibility of the poultry owners or the chicken suppliers but the consumers too have to be careful enough with the cooking methods to stay away from such type of epidemics.

A 10-Year Drive To Put The Brakes On Breast Cancer

Today breast cancer is one of the most treatable diseases with a high survival rate of 85%. Still each year 212,000 or even more women are diagnosed with the breast cancer.

One of the most important key to have successful treatment of breast cancer is to diagnosis it as early as possible. In fact according to the experts, Breast self-exam (BSE) is essential for the women above 18 every month just after the menstrual cycle. While if you are 20-39 years, then clinical breast exam is important every three years and similarly for the women above 40 years mammogram once every year is indispensable.

BMW of North America and the research foundation of America which raised largest fund, called the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, has been working together for past 10 years to spread the awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer. This drive has resulted in to millions of fund raising for the purpose.

This initiative was written by BMW and includes two fleets of specially marked BMW going for a trek across the country, while on the way they stop and organize day long events. In these events, they invite people for test driving without any cost for the participants and in turn raise money for research institutes, education, screening and treatment of breast cancer.

For every mile the car is driven, BMW contributes $1 to the Komen Foundation directly. In addition, other proceeds are also received from the same program. And guess what the participants are getting? Along with a test drive in BMW will also add their names to the signature vehicle.

For the purpose, company’s this year’s target is to raise more than $1 million. This will make the company’s 10 year’s total to $ 10 million. In fact this year, the company is celebrating the 10th anniversary and the trek which generally includes 240 stops, will also go to Alaska.
