A 10-Year Drive To Put The Brakes On Breast Cancer

Today breast cancer is one of the most treatable diseases with a high survival rate of 85%. Still each year 212,000 or even more women are diagnosed with the breast cancer.

One of the most important key to have successful treatment of breast cancer is to diagnosis it as early as possible. In fact according to the experts, Breast self-exam (BSE) is essential for the women above 18 every month just after the menstrual cycle. While if you are 20-39 years, then clinical breast exam is important every three years and similarly for the women above 40 years mammogram once every year is indispensable.

BMW of North America and the research foundation of America which raised largest fund, called the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, has been working together for past 10 years to spread the awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer. This drive has resulted in to millions of fund raising for the purpose.

This initiative was written by BMW and includes two fleets of specially marked BMW going for a trek across the country, while on the way they stop and organize day long events. In these events, they invite people for test driving without any cost for the participants and in turn raise money for research institutes, education, screening and treatment of breast cancer.

For every mile the car is driven, BMW contributes $1 to the Komen Foundation directly. In addition, other proceeds are also received from the same program. And guess what the participants are getting? Along with a test drive in BMW will also add their names to the signature vehicle.

For the purpose, company’s this year’s target is to raise more than $1 million. This will make the company’s 10 year’s total to $ 10 million. In fact this year, the company is celebrating the 10th anniversary and the trek which generally includes 240 stops, will also go to Alaska.

So people can go for test drives, if they are willing to help the cause. Additionally they might also:

• try to organize BSEs, clinical exams and even mammograms.
• keep yourself away from smoking and do not take stress.
• engage yourself in more exercise

• Try to take lesser helpings of alcohol or avoid it completely
• Do not forget to have good diet. Include more of grains, vegetables, olive oil, poultry etc.
